3 Essential Items I Won’t Travel Anywhere Without

So, I’ve been fortunate enough to travel to many places around the world, and experience unforgettable moments that I’ll remember for a lifetime, but I’ve also learned the hard way that things can go wrong on your adventures, if you’re not prepared.
If you’ve been travelling enough, then you know how it is—you get better at knowing what to take with you on your adventures, for a stress-free and more enriching experience.
Aside from must-haves, like my passport, travel documents, clothes and insurance, there are 3 items that I now consider absolutely essential whenever I travel anywhere, which I’m sharing with you now.
These help keep me safe, save me money, and make my life easier, so I’d recommend them to anybody!
1. Water to Go Bottle (Reusable Water Bottle with Filter)
I love my Water to Go bottle. Without wanting to sound too dramatic, it changed my life!
Me vs single-use plastic bottled water used to be a battle that caused me issues on my adventures; They’re not environmentally friendly, they get expensive, and they aren’t always readily available, but often there’s little choice when you’re hiking in a remote area, or visiting a country where tap water isn’t drinkable, for example.
A reusable water bottle, with a special filter (I opt for Water to Go’s bottles), changed all that for me–I’ve got easy access to drinkable water, and it saves me a small fortune on plastic bottled water, while I’m also doing my bit for the environment. I don’t go anywhere without it now.
The built-in filter removes over 99% of bacteria, viruses, and other nasties from water, so basically any water source (apart from salt water) is safe to drink from, whether that be a tap, stream, river, or fountain, for example.
I’ve used mine hiking the Inca Trail, on safari in Africa, and in airports across Europe, all without issue–and it doesn’t take up much space in my bag.
If you’re not already on the reusable, filtered water bottle bandwagon, this one is a no-brainer.
2. Universal Travel Plug Adapter
This is one of those things that seems small, but it can make or break your travel experience.
I’ve arrived at destinations before, only to realise I haven’t got the right adapter for their plug sockets-nightmare, right? A universal travel plug adapter is a must-have, especially if you’re hopping between countries that have different plug types (which, let’s face it, is most of them!).
My universal adapter is compact and fits into pretty much any socket around the world, whether I’m in Europe, Asia, or the Americas, so there’s no need for packing individual adapters, and worrying if I have the right one.
It’s especially handy if you’re working remotely, like I sometimes do. Plus, a lot of adapters now come with USB ports, so you can charge multiple devices at once. It’s a real time-saver.
I never travel without mine anymore. It’s small, lightweight, and has saved me so much hassle.
3. Power Bank
Speaking of charging, a power bank is essential to me now. On my travels, I know my phone can be charged, wherever I am.
Keeping in touch with home (or having the option to in an emergency), taking photos and important travel apps, like maps and translators, are all dependent on my phone having charge, so I like knowing I can charge it no matter how far away from a power source I am.
There’s nothing worse than being out and about, exploring a new place, and your phone dies right when you need it the most.
I always carry a power bank in my bag, fully charged and ready to go. It’s saved me on long flights, bus journeys, and during trips when I’ve been out exploring for hours.
Just make sure you get a good one with a decent capacity, so it can charge your phone multiple times before it runs out.
So there you have it—my top three travel essentials that I absolutely swear by! They’ve made my travels so much easier, and I genuinely don’t know how I used to get by without them.
Safe travels, wherever you’re headed next!
